Moy Valley Resources IRD Highlights Community Impact in Mayo town at 2024 AGM

At its recent 2024 AGM, members of IRD North Mayo-West Sligo CLG, which trades as Moy Valley Resources, were told by the Chairperson, David Dwane, that the organisation played a crucial part in getting the Innovation Quarter in Ballina off the ground during the year.

Working with Mayo County Council, Moy Valley Resources is the operational partner for IQ Ballina. They played a significant role in helping this state-of-the-art new facility to take its first steps. The first tenants took up occupancy in early 2024 with further enterprises taking space throughout the year.

“Meanwhile, we continue to support around 30 businesses indirectly at our own Enterprise Centre in Greenhills, at our Quay retail and commercial units, at Cathedral Road, and at various locations in Bunree,” said Mr. Dwane.

Other MVR projects such as Craoibhín Ballina, Mayo Volunteer Centre and Mayo North Tourism Promotions are making a considerable impact on the social and economic infrastructure of the region, reinforcing the importance of their contribution to the Community.

Moy Valley Resources supports both individuals and local organisations in the area of employment. “Moy Valley Resources Community Employment Scheme contract allows for 46 participants. By year end there were 43 people employed.

Despite operating in a ‘full employment’ environment, which makes recruitment challenging, we remain committed to finding innovative methods to attract and retain staff,” Mr Dwane said.

CEO, Annette Maughan, highlighted to the Board that the variety of projects undertaken and successfully delivered could not happen without the dedicated and committed management team, supported by a diligent and motivated staff. Annette stated, “it may seem effortless from the outside, but the graft of the management team is not to be underestimated. Working in this sector takes a certain type of commitment not readily found elsewhere, and we are incredibly lucky to have the professional, hard-working, agile team that we have, who can adapt when necessary ensuring the smooth running of the organisation and consistently delivering quality results in our programmes and projects.”

Maughan also outlined the improvements in governance, especially in the annual report, to provide a transparent and informative document, accurately reflective of the organisation during the previous year. Maughan informed the board that “our Annual Report is now of a standard that befits our organisation and the charitable status that we hold. To ensure compliance with the Charities Regulator we publish our Annual Report and Audited Accounts on our website annually.”
