Belmullet entertainment venue set to open

AS businesses all over the country shut their doors, a new venture in Belmullet is hoping to win favour among locals when it opens in the coming weeks. And there is every reason to believe it will.
A new state-of-the art indoor entertainment venue, complete with bowling alleys and games’ rooms, is expected to open its doors in the Erris town at the end of the month.
The Gateway Leisureplex, situated on the site of the former WEB night club on the Bangor road in Belmullet, will be one of Ireland’s largest and most interactive children’s activity areas. Facilities on offer will include a six-lane bowling area, a large arcade gaming room, a pool hall, a party room, restaurant and bar and a function room suitable for christenings, birthday parties and other celebrations. The leisureplex also boasts the only bowing alley in Ireland that provides Gaeilge as a language option on its scoring board.
The €3.7 million venue was developed by local company Frank Brogan Ltd and will provide full-time employment for 28 people, as well as a number of part-time positions. The furbishing of the 26,000 square foot centre is now under way and it is hoped the doors will open at the end of March, if all licensing matters can be secured.
Enda Brogan of Frank Brogan Ltd told The Mayo News that the response from the local community has been very positive and explained that bookings for April and May were almost full. He said the venue had attractions for people of all ages and would bring people into the Belmullet area.
“The local reaction to the leisureplex has been superb and already different businesses such as the Broadhaven Bay Hotel, local B&Bs and the UISCE adventure centre have been bouncing off the service. There has been huge interest from schools and already April is full and we have bookings going into June. The leisureplex will be family-orientated with activities for all ages, but it will also be family affordable,” he said.
A website for the leisureplex has been set up which outlines all the facilities available and will be running promotions for a range of activities for all age groups. The leisureplex is also running a competition with a chance to win your child’s next birthday party in the Gateway Party rooms for free.
