Man critical after stabbing in Castlebar

A 33-year-old man received serious injuries in a stabbing incident which saw blood strewn on the doorstep of a house and on the road of a Castlebar estate.
The incident occurred at 3.30 am on Sunday night in the Manor Village Estate on the Westport Road in Castlebar. It is believed the man received his injuries inside the house, No 66, before he fled out on to the street, leaving a substantial amount of blood on the doorway aswell as on a Ford Fiesta car park in the driveway.
The man eventually made his way to a neighbour’s house before been rushed to Mayo General Hospital where he was immediately transferred to the intensive care unit. The injured party was transferred to a Dublin hospital on Monday evening with his condition been described as ‘critical but stable’.
A 39-year-old Scottish man was arrested on Monday morning and taken to Castlebar Garda Station for questioning in relation to the incident. He was still in Garda custody late on Monday evening.
