GEESALA will be turned into a mini-Electric Picnic this summer with thousands of music fans set to descent on the Gaeltacht village for two days for ‘Mayo’s Biggest Party’.
The Far West music festival will take place in a five acre field in Geesala on Friday, August 18 and Saturday, August 19 with legendary British electronic music duo Basement Jaxx and Irish singer-songwriter, Gavin James among the headline acts.
Far West Fest is part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of the famous Geesala horse racing festival which takes place on nearby Doolough Beach on Sunday, August 20.
It is anticipated that each day of the festival will attract up to 5,000 people to Erris with tickets for the two day festival to go on general sale tomorrow, Wednesday, March 15. Single day tickets are priced at €55 while weekend passes are also advertised at €92.
The organisers have linked up with Corduff Travel and buses will be running to the festival from Achill, Ballina, Castlebar, Crossmolina and Westport. They have also teamed up with Pitched Perfect to provide boutique tents with glamping organised in a field close to the festival site and shuttle buses operating every 15 minutes.
Far West Fest will be Ireland’s newest festival and marketed as ‘Mayo’s Biggest Party’ which will attract thousands of music fans to the Erris village.
A number of performers have already been announced to play at the festival with British electronic music duo Basement Jaxx to headline the opening day of the festival. Basement Jaxx gained international chart success in the early 2000s and their most successful singles were ‘Red Alert’, ‘Rendez-Vu’, ‘Romeo’ and the smash hit ‘Where's Your Head At’.
They will be supported on the Friday evening by Irish singer-songwriter, Lyra and 2FM DJ, Jenny Greene.
Irish singer-songwriter, Gavin James will headline on Saturday and he will be supported by The Academic and Wild Youth. More artists will be announced to perform at the festival in the coming weeks.
