CASTLEBAR-based county councillor Michael Kilcoyne has called on Mayo GAA to meet with Mayo County Council to resolve ongoing issues over parking on MacHale Road during match days.
A meeting of Castlebar Municipal District Council heard that cars were being ‘abandoned’ along the road during matches at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park, leaving residents unable to leave their homes.
Raising the issue, Cllr Blackie Gavin said one sick person was unable to leave their home after their car was blocked in during last weekend’s meeting of Westport and Moycullen.
Cllr Gavin called for residents of MacHale Road to be invited to a meeting of the municipal district to air their concerns. The residents have already contacted Mayo County Council’s CEO Kevin Kelly regarding the issue.
“The GAA and Mayo County Council have to deal with this issue on MacHale Road, because there’s cars going in there and they’re just abandoning them,” Cllr Kilcoyne said.
Mayo GAA declined to comment on the matter when contacted by The Mayo News.
