THE Market Squares of Castlebar and Claremorris are set to be transformed due to their successful receipt of Fáilte Ireland funding for the enhancement of the urban outdoor domain.
The towns were awarded over €200,000 in total to be spent through Part Two of the Fáilte Ireland’s Weatherproofing and Outdoor Dining Enhancement Scheme. This facilitates the development of permanent weatherproof structures to be developed in partnership with local authorities, in this case, Mayo County Council. Part One of the funding stream has already supported many businesses throughout the country in developing their outdoor spaces.
Welcoming the news, Deputy Alan Dillon, Fine Gael, said: “The implementation of the Local Authority Weatherproofing and Outdoor Dining Enhancement scheme will be hugely beneficial for Castlebar and Claremorris, enhancing infrastructure and allowing local hospitality businesses to adapt and develop their offering. Outdoor dining and hospitality will now be a year-round feature of our hospitality offering and businesses need to be supported to facilitate this. I warmly welcome the contribution of Fáilte Ireland, who are providing over €200,000 to two large towns in Co Mayo and congratulate Mayo County Council on their successful application and I look forward to seeing the work commence.”
Deputy Michael Ring also welcomed the funding for both towns.
“The aim of this scheme is to support tourism and hospitality jobs and help businesses develop new ways of catering for domestic and international tourists outdoors,” said Deputy Ring. “Outdoor dining and hospitality will now be a year-round feature of our hospitality offering and businesses need to be supported to facilitate this.”
The entire funding tranche for this section of the scheme was €9 million and it has benefited 38 towns and cities across the country. Market Square, Castlebar was award €98,725 and Market Square, Claremorris, will receive €101,300.
Part one of the Scheme – Outdoor Seating and Accessories – supports individual hospitality businesses with grants of up to €4,000 for seating, tables and outdoor accessories.
The closing date for receipt of applications for this section has been extended to September 30.
