It is understood that Mr Heffernan, who was in his late 30s, was travelling with another motorcyclist in the direction of Westport when the accident occurred at approximately 8.30pm on Tuesday, May 26.
Mr Heffernan was pronouced dead at the scene, and his body was subsequently taken to Mayo University Hospital for a postmortem. The driver of the tractor and the other motorcyclist was uninjured.

Local councillor Michael Loftus said the whole community is devastated by the news, and he expressed his sympathy to Brendan’s mother Evelyn and his siblings, Mary, Kevin and Michael.
“This is really sad news to come our way, and everyone in the community is so upset to hear what happened.
“Brendan was well known in the community and comes from a well-known and respected family, and we are all devastated for them. It is so sad for a young man to lose his life with his life ahead of hime. All I can say is I express my deepest condolences to his mother, Evelyn, and all his family and friends,” he said.
The scene of the accident was closed off over night and diversions were put in place to allow the Garda forensic crash-scene investigators to carry out an examination of the scene. Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses or road users in the area who may have dashcam footage to contact Newport Gardaí on 098 41102 or any Garda station.
