Massive grow house discovered in Claremorris


EXTENSIVE Over 500 plants were discovered in Claremorris yesterday.

A LARGE grow house containing over €400,000 worth of cannabis plants was discovered at a premises just outside Claremorris yesterday (Monday).
A search carried out by gardaí from the Mayo Divisional Drugs Unit, assisted by members of the Claremorris Community Engagement Team and the Armed Support Unit on an old schoolhouse at Ballinastanford, Claremorris, just outside the town on the Balla Road, discovered over 500 cannabis plants with an estimated street value €430,000.
The search was conducted in mid-afternoon and no arrests were made. However, gardaí were on the lookout for three males, possibly of foreign nationality, who left the area shortly before the discovery and made their way into forestry behind the premises.
A garda helicopter was deployed to search the area for the three men yesterday and gardaí are appealing to the public to be on the lookout for three strangers who may be acting suspiciously.  
The is the second large grow house discovery made by gardaí in the Claremorris area in the past 30 days. Late last month they found approximately €250,000 worth of cannabis plants in large scale production in an industrial premises in the town.
Gardaí have now discovered over €820,000 worth of drugs in Mayo this year.
