ON STAGE Saw Doctors lead singer Davy Carton will take to the stage in MacHale Park on Saturday evening.
EARLY arrivals at MacHale Park, Castlebar, for the big showdown between Mayo and Donegal on Saturday, can look forward to a special concert which should have both sets of supporters in fine voice ahead of the game which throws in at 6pm. The concert takes place between 3.30pm and 4.45pm on a specially erected stage in front of the main stand.
Tuam man, Davy Carton, lead singer with The Saw Doctors, is assured of a tremendous welcome from the Mayo supporters and his rendition of The Green and Red of Mayo is set to be one of the absolute highlights of the show. The song has been adopted by Mayo supporters as the theme song for the county teams.
Davy is thrilled to get this unique chance to perform in Castlebar and in front of the huge Mayo support. Patrons can also look forward to him singing the Joyce Country Céilí Band, I Used to Love Her, and two or three more famous Sawdoctors songs.
Frank McCaffrey from Westport will perform two well known Mayo songs during the show while Pat & Pasty of the hugely popular Donegal band, Goats Don’t Shave, are also on the bill. Watch out for their rousing version of Las Vegas in the Hills of Donegal.
The show has been put together by Michael Commins of The Mayo News and Mid West Radio, who will also be compere for the concert.
The decision of the Mayo County Board to go ahead with the concert means that they are now in a position to release extra ticktets to GAA clubs for the Mayo v Donegal game. Demand for tickets has been massive around the country with people making the journey to Castlebar from all parts of Ireland and some from overseas.
