AN ‘all-time record’ was made at today’s Annual General Meeting of the Castlebar Municipal District of Mayo County Council after Independent Michael Kilcoyne was elected as Cathaoirleach for a third time.
Director of Services of Mayo County Council, John Condon, made the revelation as he wished Cllr Kilcoyne well for the year ahead.
Cllr Kilcoyne was proposed for the position by Cllr Blackie Gavin (FF) and seconded by Cllr Martin McLoughin (FF).
Cllr Gavin praised Cllr Kilcoyne for his service to Castlebar, adding that he should continue with the fine job he has done in the seat to date.
Cllr Gavin was elected as Leas-Cathaoirleach after being proposed by Cllr McLoughlin and seconded by Cllr Al McDonnell (FF).
Cllr McLoughlin said he had ‘no hesitation’ in proposing his party colleague and that his credintials more than fit the bill after serving as chair of Mayo County Council and Castlebar Town Council in the past.
Cllr Kilcoyne added: “If you do half as well as you did when serving as Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, you’ll do well.” There were no counter proposals made for the positions.
