Majella Donoghue (30) laid to rest in Erris

FONDLY REMEMBERED The late Majella Donoghue.

The funeral has taken place in Erris of Majella Donoghue, the 30 year-old woman who tragically died on the way home from a holiday in South Africa, where she had just gotten engaged.
The funeral Mass took place in a packed St Brendan’s Church in Tirrane where hundreds of people attended on Sunday morning at what was a very emotional ceremony.
Fr Kevin Hegarty, Parish Priest of Kilmore Erris, concelebrated the funeral Mass along with ten other priests.
Majella, who was employed in Boston Scientific in Galway, had been waked in the family home which is close to St Brendan’s Church on Saturday night after her body had been flown to Ireland West Airport Knock from London. A post mortem had taken place on Majella’s body in London but the results have yet to be released. She became ill on a fight home from South Africa where she had been on holiday with her boyfriend, Barry Doherty. Barry had proposed on the trip and last week he posted on Facebook a picture of the happy couple just moments after they had become engaged, stating it was their last photo together.
Barry gave a eulogy at the end of Sunday’s funeral Mass where he said he had loved Majella dearly and will miss her so much.
During the ceremony, gifts were brought to the altar which included a statue of Our Lady, teddy bears, a bodhrán and Mayo GAA football jersey.
Majella is survived by her boyfriend Barry, her mother Mary, her twin brother, Stephen, brothers Tommy, David and Brendan, and sister Angela. She was laid to rest in Faulmore Cemetery, where her late father Willie is also buried.
