Westport school answers ‘Ireland’s Call’ as Gaeilge
THE third and fourth class students of Scoil Phadraíg, Westport are embracing their patriotism this St Patrick’s Day, with a novel online video.
The students, along with their teacher Ms Mary Timlin, created a video ahead of Ireland’s rugby game against Wales at the weekend.
Learning the Irish for parts of the body, as well as having the ‘Seachtain na Gaeilge’ atmosphere around the school recently, the students decided to translate the words of the rugby team’s anthem ‘Ireland’s Call’.
They recorded the song ‘Glaoch na hEireann’ (Ireland’s Call) and choreographed moves to the song for the video. In the background of the video is the best highlights of the Ireland’s performances so far this year. The lyrics are shown at the bottom of the screen in English and Irish so people have no excuse not to sing along.
“The students worked very hard to learn the lyrics ‘as Gaeilge’ and it helped that they knew the melody very well already,” said Ms Timlin.
