Death of well-known cattle dealer


The sudden death has occurred of Ballinrobe man Des McGreal on Saturday last. A well-known cattle dealer in the region, Des and his wife Margaret were celebrating the 60th wedding anniversary of their wedding on Saturday afternoon last.
Des and Margaret, their family and their friends celebrated the milestone with a Mass in St John’s Church, The Neale on Saturday, the church where they were married sixty years previously.
However, leaving the church after the service Des took ill and died shortly afterwards.
Aged 83, Des was a very well-known figure in south Mayo and beyond. He dealt in cattle all over the country and was from a well-known family of cattle dealers.
Des, who lived in Springvale, Ballinrobe is mourned by his wife Margaret, nee Caulfield from Cahermaculick, Shrule, children Brid, JJ, Anne, Rose, Kathleen, Madge, Des, Marie, Tina and Eamonn, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His funeral Mass takes place today (Tuesday) at 12.30pm in St Mary’s Church, Ballinrobe with burial afterwards in Ballinrobe New Cemetery.
