KNOCKRANNY House Hotel has won the AA Hotel of the Year Award while Hotel Westport has been awarded the Georgina Campbell Family-Friendly Hotel of the Year.
The AA award was presented  last week to the proprietors, Geraldine and Adrian Noonan, by the Minister for Tourism, Leo Varadkar.
Speaking at the ceremony, Brendan Nevin the CEO of AA Ireland, said: “It’s a huge and very challenging feat to be named AA Hotel of the Year and only a hotel that exemplifies the very best that Ireland has to offer can be deemed worthy. Our every congratulations go to the Noonan family and their superb and passionate team on their achievement. They have been a very close contender for the award for a number of years now and enormous credit goes to them all for their drive and determination in making Knockranny House Hotel the excellent destination it is today.”
A multi-award-winning and luxurious destination, Knockranny House Hotel is regularly feted for its outstanding cuisine which is created by a team of chefs led by Seamus Commons.
Speaking at the awards, Adrian Noonan said: “Myself, Geraldine and all the team here at Knockranny House Hotel are incredibly proud and delighted to be named AA Ireland Hotel of the Year 2012-2013. We and all our staff, both the locals from the surrounding area and those who have come to us from further afield, know how lucky we are to be in Westport, which was just recently voted Best Place to Live in Ireland. Our location may be fortunate, but it is the hard work and commitment of everyone at Knockranny House Hotel in capitalising on what we have that has won us this fantastic and prestigious award.”
Excellence in service and hospitality as well as a clear demonstration of continuous improvement are key in attaining the coveted title of AA Hotel of the Year, and Adrian and Geraldine Noonan have shown a tireless commitment to enhancing and evolving Knockranny House Hotel since opening the thriving venture fifteen years ago.
Among their undertakings during the hotel’s history has been the addition of 40 luxury bedrooms in 1996 which brought the total to 97, with 13 sumptuous suites including a magnificent Presidential Suite, Penthouse Suite and a number of beautiful Master and Courtyard Suites.
Responding to the news, Minister of State for Tourism, Michael Ring congratulated both Knockranny House Hotel and Hotel Westport.
“This has been a stellar year for Westport, not only was it named the ‘Best Place to Live in Ireland’ earlier this year but now our town has officially become home to two of the best hotels in the country.  The AA has been inspecting and grading hotels in Ireland for more than a century so it was a tremendous feat for Knockranny House Hotel to be named AA Hotel of the year. It sums up the very best that Ireland has to offer. Knockranny House Hotel has been a very close contender for the award for a number of years and enormous credit goes to them all for their drive and determination in making the hotel the excellent destination it is today,” Minister Ring said.
Speaking about Hotel Westport’s award Minister Ring said: “Nationally renowned as Ireland’s leading independent hospitality awards, The Georgina Campbell Awards select only the crème de la crème of Irish hospitality, which makes this accolade all the more of an honour for Hotel Westport.”
