Man arrested for drink driving twice in one week

A BALLINA man who was arrested twice for drink driving in the same week was disqualified from driving for six years at last week’s sitting of Ballina District Court.
John Seery of 14 Blackrock Court, Quay Road, Ballina, was arrested at Quignalecka, Ballina, on December 31, 2011, for drink driving, and again on January 6, 2012, at Drumrevagh, Ballina. On both occasions he provided blood samples that proved positive for alcohol and was over the legal drink driving limit.
The court heard that Mr Seery had no previous convictions before these arrests and his solicitor, Mr Peter Loftus, explained that at the time his client was undergoing difficulties in his personal circumstances and was drinking heavily.
Following these incidents, he disposed of his van and checked into Hope House, where he completed the residential programme and has turned his life around. Mr Loftus explained he was now ‘dry and sober’ and said the arrests may have been a good thing for him. He added his client was single and was not working.
Judge Devins imposed a six year driving ban and fined him a total of €1,000.
