Mayo Mountain Rescue is organising a half marathon from Louisburgh to Westport to help raise much-needed funds.
The Run-For-Rescue Half Marathon in aid of the Mayo Mountain Rescue team will take place on Sunday, September 2, and the voluntary organisation is the public to support the team by taking part in the run. Mayo Mountain Rescue is facing into its busiest time of the year with hundreds of people expected to climb Croagh Patrick on Reek Sunday, which this year falls on July 29.
The half marathon is run over a flat route where magnificent views of Croagh Patrick and Clew Bay will motivate and inspire all runners and add to the enjoyment of the occasion. Mary Walsh, Team Leader of Mayo Mountain Rescue, is keen to point out that anyone can take part. “All you need is to be able to take one step and repeat it many times and you have the ability to take part on the Run-For-Rescue Half Marathon in aid of Mayo Mountain Rescue Team,” she explained.
There will be prizes in many categories of runners both for male and female competitors, including prizes for various age groups, male and female, and a prize for the best relay teams.
