Approval given for Knock parking bye-laws

Austin Garvin

The long drawn out saga regarding parking bye-laws for Knock came nearer resolution following a decision taken at the Claremorris Electoral Area meeting on Wednesday last.
The members gave the green light to implement new parking bye-laws that could eventually lead to pay and display parking.
However, pay and display parking may not be introduced if a new parking system that is being proposed this year proves successful.
Director of Services for the area, Seamus Granahan told the meeting that the issue had been discussed at several meetings in the past and had now got to the stage where a consensus had been reached.
He said Mayo County Council would be liaising with the Gardaí regarding parking and road markings. He said the council would change what was necessary on the ground and try  to enforce the parking laws normally this year. They would take full heed of Garda advice.
