Artist to receive pub rent for money owed

A COURT has ordered that rent a Knock hotelier receives from a pub he leases in Claremorris will have to be forwarded to an artist to pay for money owned for work done for the hotel.
Claremorris native Karen Forde, a commercial artist with an address at Studio Space, 29 Longs Place, Dublin 8 took the civil action against Michael Morris of the Belmont Hotel, Knock for over €22,000 owed for art work commissioned for the hotel.
Last week’s sitting of Castlebar Civil Court heard that Ms Forde had received only €150 of payment and was looking for a lump sum of €5,000 plus €100 per after that. Ms Caroline Barry, solicitor for Mr Morris said his financial situation was dire and all his properties were in arrears.
Mr Diarmuid Connolly, counsel for Ms Forde said that Mr Morris also owned the Porter House pub in Claremorris and leased the premises to James Cummins of Woodstock, Ballindine.
After a day’s adjournment it was agreed that Mr Cummins would pay the €500 per week in rent to Ms Forde until the total sum of €24,504.86 was paid and Judge Rory MacCabe agreed to make the order.
