CASTLEBAR’S latest millionaire is either doing a very good job at keeping things under wraps or has not checked his or her ticket yet as mystery surrounds the owner of a valuable ticket.
The winning €6 quickpick, which scooped its owner a cool €2,688,982, was bought on Saturday in the Londis Plus shop on the Station Road in Castlebar. Saturday’s €5.3 million Lotto jackpot was split between two winners with the second ticket bought in Ennis.
News of the winning ticket was met with excitement in the county town with speculation mounting as to who the new secret millionaire could be. If the lucky winner is from Castlebar and has checked their ticket, they are giving very little away with no indication yet who the lucky person is. Mayor of Castlebar, Cllr Eugene McCormack told The Mayo News that he has not heard any names being floated about only to confirm he was not the winner. He said he wished the person who won the jackpot well and hopes it went to a local person.
“I have not heard anything so far about who might be the winner but this is great news for the town and good luck to whoever has won. They must be keeping it quiet because I was around the town yesterday and I did not hear a thing. We will have to be watching out for whoever changes their car and things like that in the coming weeks,” he joked.
The winning ticket was bought in the Londis Plus shop which was formerly known as Hanley’s on Station Street. Edel Walsh from the shop said everyone was excited about the win and there was nothing definite about who the winner might be.
