Gardaí investigating ‘suspicious’ Ballycastle death

Gardaí in Ballina are treating as suspicious the death of a 69-year-old man from Ballycastle who died last week after sustaining head injuries outside a pub in the north Mayo village last month.
Frank Healy from Behy, Ballycastle, died in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, last week as a result of injuries sustained outside the Seaview Lounge, Ballycastle in the early hours of December 17 last. His death caused deep shock and sadness throughut the area.
Gardaí in Ballina confirmed that, following inquiries, they are treating the death as ‘suspicious’. After taking interviews from a large number of patrons who were in the vicinity of the premises on the night in question, four people were arrested on January 3 and 4 last and were brought to Ballina Garda Station in relation to Mr Healy’s death.
All were released without charge. A Garda spokesperson told The Mayo News that they anticipate a file will be prepared for submission to the Director of Public Prosecutions on completion of their investigation, which remains ongoing.

The Funeral Mass for Mr Healy took place on Sunday morning at St Brigid’s Church, Ballycastle. He is survived by his wife and four grown-up children.
