Ever wondered what it would be like to sit in the same seat as the Taoiseach? Imagined steering the machine of the state, pushing the wheels of the economy onward and upward, judiciously applying the brakes to avoid freewheeling downward? Finding that elusive economic corner, and actually turning it?
Well, one Kerry shop owner is getting a good feel for just that. Okay, Enda Kenny has not quite handed him the reins – but he has won the handlebars. According to the December 28 edition of The Kerryman, James Murphy of Milltown, Co Kerry, has won the bicycle used by Enda Kenny during the annual Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle.
The highspec Trek carbon bike was first prize in a raffle held to raise funds for Home From Home, a Killarney centre where children with disabilities avail of after-school services. And it appears that the Taoiseach’s bike was quite the pull: The raffle raised an impressive €7462.43 for the centre.
