Two Mayo choirs took top honours at the recent Sligo International Choral Festival. Cor Maigheo under Director Brian Lennon and Gracenotes under Director Laura Brogan took top honours in two of the major categories. In the Rev Michael O’Connor Memorial Trophy for Sacred Music Choirs held in St Anne’s Church, Gracenotes took top spot with Cor Maigheo as runners up while in the Mayor of Sligo Perpetual Trophy for four-part Irish Choirs the positions were reversed. Both choirs received high praise from the adjudicators for the standard of their performances and the choice of material.
Following their successful day in Sligo, Cor Maigheo hot footed it back to Westport to perform with Noirin Ni Riain and Mark Patrick Hederman in ‘From Ballad to Byzantium: a celebration of Yeats in poetry and song’. This wonderful evening of entertainment was part of the very successful Rolling Sun Book Festival.
Both award winning choirs, Gracenotes and Cor Maigheo are hosting a night of Christmas music in the beautiful setting of Ballintubber Abbey, on Sunday, December 18. All proceeds will go to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.
