A man died after being struck by a train outside Foxford on Monday evening. The man was killed when he was hit by a train 300 metres on the Ballina side of Foxford Train Station shortly after 6pm.
The name of the married man will not be released until all his family have been notified, but local County Councillor Jimmy Maloney said that he knew the deceased, a local man, and that the news was ‘awful sad’.
“He was a very nice fella and it is awful sad to hear this. He was married to a lovely lady and my sympathies go to his wife and family. It is terribly sad news for the area.”
Irish Rail confirmed via Twitter that the Ballina to Manulla Junction service was not operating on Monday night as a result and that bus transfers would be operation. Normal service has now resumed.
