Gardaí investigating fatal road accident

Gardaí in Belmullet are seeking the assistance of the public in investigating a fatal road traffic  accident which claimed the life of a 59-year-old man.
PJ Garrett of Devlawn, Clogher, Belmullet, died on Thursday morning when his vehicle collided with a wall on the Belmullet to Blacksod road near Binghamstown. Mr Garrett was the sole occupant in the single-vehicle collision, which took place at around 11.50am.
Mr Garrett, a single man, was taken to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar, where he was pronounced dead. No other person was injured in the collision. The road was closed to allow a forensic investigation and opened later that evening.
Mr Garrett’s funeral Mass took place in St Brendan’s Church, Tirrane, at 12 noon with burial afterwards in Faulmore Cemetery.
Anyone who was in the Binghamstown area between 11.30am and 12.30pm, and who may have seen the collision, is asked to contact the gardaí in Belmullet on 097 81910.
