VANDALS and thieves were busy in the Westport area over the weekend where a car was stolen and later found burnt-out in the grounds of historic Westport House.
Inspector Joe McKenna confirmed to The Mayo News last night that another car, parked beside the Public Library, was significantly damaged, with all its windows smashed.
“We are following a definite line of inquiry regarding this car. Regarding the other car, a silver Rover, it was stolen from Kelly’s garage on George’s Street in Newport sometime between 9am on Friday last and 12.45pm on Saturday afternoon. It was discovered burnt out near the Pitch and Putt course at Westport House,” Insp McKenna said.
He said a break-in at a doctor’s surgery on the Mall at 5.20am on Saturday morning left thieves almost empty-handed.
“There were no drugs stolen and all they took was a small electronic safe which was empty.”
Anyone with information on any of the incidents is asked to phone Westport Garda Station at 098 25555.
