One-hundred-year-old woman dies in Achill

The burial took place yesterday (Monday) of one of Achill’s oldest persons, Grace Kilbane who died on Friday in her home in Bunnacurry surrounded by her family.
On the day she died, Grace was aged 100 years, one week and one day after celebrating her one hundredth birthday on September 15 with her many family and friends. A native of Bunnacurry on Achill Island, Grace nee English was married to Edward Kilbane from Bunnacurry and had six children.
They lived in Birkenhead, Liverpool for a number of years before returning home to Achill and living in Bunncurry over 40 years ago. An outgoing and active person Grace enjoyed good health into her latter years and there were great celebrations when she reached the one hundred milestone last week.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward and her two sons, Edward and Peter James and is survived by her sons, Stephen and Michael, daughters, Celia and Virginia and extended family. Her requiem Mass took place yesterday in St Joseph’s Church in Bunnacurry with burial in Bunnacurry Cemetery.
