Glee star confirms Mayo visit

BALLINA’s latest superstar – Glee actor Kevin McHale – has spoken for the first time about finding his roots in the north Mayo capital.
Last Thursday, the actor who plays Artie Abrams in the cult American musical show, revealed details of his summer trip to Mayo on daytime US television show, Live with Regis and Kelly.
Appearing live from the New York studios, he told presenter Regis Philbin, who has family connections with Mayo: “We finished the Glee tour in Dublin so I went to spend a few days with my parents in the west coast, County Mayo.”
When asked what the name of the town was, the 23-year-old hesitated but stated “right outside of Ballina, before struggling to remember the town-land name. “There was this massive lake and we had my friend’s cousins showing us around.”
The actor also referred to the Glee show’s huge success in Ireland. “Apparently, we sell the most music in Ireland,” he said.
Glee fans, known as ‘Gleeks’, spotted the star in north Mayo last month with his whereabouts rapidly discussed online and through social networking forums. Glee is an American musical comedy-drama television series that airs worldwide. It touches on the high school glee club Kevin McHale is one of the original eight club members which created the main cast of the show.
This year the programme scooped the Golden Globe award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy for the second year running.
