The Geesala Festival continues to impress and entertain this week with a large array of events which will captivate the entire family up until the festivals conclusion on Sunday August 14 next.
At 2pm today (Tuesday) there is a range of soccer competitions which will cater for U-10’s, U12’s and U-14’‘s while adults will be catered for in the 18-hole Open Golf Competition at Doohoma which begins at 11am.
On Wednesday the Traditional Heritage and Sports Day will incorporate a large selection of music, tradition and lots of fun. Midwest Radio will broadcast live from 11am until 1pm and capture the unique atmosphere.
Thursday will be an activity based day with the Geesala Village Go Karting event humming their respective engines at 5.30pm, while for those less akin to motor sport there will be a mile long Cycle Race beginning at 6pm.
A Doolough Reunion Day will take place on Friday beginning at 2pm, ahead of a Whacky Sports Childrens extravaganza at 4pm. Geesala’s own Henry Coyle will fight Italian Elio Cotena at 8pm on Friday evening in his WBF Light Middleweight World Title Fight at the Royal Theatre in Castlebar
Coyle will have massive support in what is sure to be a an exciting night in Castlebar and post-fight back in Geesala. Live music and entertainment as always during the week long festivities will be in plentiful supply.
The weekend will include the Rásaí na gCon (Greyhound Racing) on Doolagh Beach at 1pm, and at 5pm a 10k Road Race will commence at Doohoma which is anticipated will attract a lot of competitors of all ages and standards. The evenings entertainment will include a Texas Hold em Poker Night and a Garden Disco in the Abhainn Mhór Lodge Hotel.
Sunday will conclude with a special 11.30am Mass in Doohoma graveyard. Rásaí na gCapaill (Horse Racing) will continue the sporting exploits on Doohoma Beach at 1pm before music, craic and the choosing of the Festival Queen and a presentation of prizes.
