GARDAÍ in Westport seized a number of computers after they carried out a search on a house outside the town last Friday.
The search, which was carried out under the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act, came about as a result of information received by the gardaí last week.
A warrant was obtained in the District Court on Thursday and after searching the house, a number of computers were seized and removed.
The seized computers have been sent to Dublin for further analysis and examination by specialists and the gardaí in Westport are continuing their investigations into the matter.
“We acted as a result of some information we received but we wish to stress that the investigation is only at a preliminary stage and no one has been charged with any offence yet,” said a spokesperson for the Gardaí.
The spokesperson also confirmed that there is no connection between the Westport seizure and any other international investigation that is ongoing.
No further information was forthcoming at the time of going to press.
