Murrisk is your oyster

AW SHUCKS! Oysterfest includes oyster-shucking competitions and more.

Oysters are in season, and the very best of them will be on offer at The Tavern Murrisk during Oysterfest, which runs from Friday, August 23, to Sunday, August 25. It’s not just about enjoying the taste of oysters, it’s about fresh seafood, music, karaoke, competitions and generally having a good time.
If you fancy your chances as a speedy shucker, make sure you enter the Oyster Opening Competition on Saturday night. There is a contest for amateur openers, and then the professionals will have their own local chefs contest, which is when the fun really starts, with a top prize of €100 for the winner. The amateurs are on stage at 9pm, followed by the professionals at 10pm. Entries will be taken on the night. Local talent will get a chance to shine when the karaoke gets going.
Fresh oyster will be available all weekend, and in addition, executive chef Myles O’Brien has created a delicious seafood menu using the best of local fish and shellfish. The lobster tank is full of the freshest Atlantic lobster, so everyone will find something to their taste.
Following on from the successful Mescan Food Pairing Wheel, which was launch and Lobsterfest in July, The Tavern has a series of suggested Mescan Craft Beer and food pairings to make the experience perfect. Raise your Mescan or a glass of chilled wine, and it’s a recipe for success.
Lying between Croagh Patrick and the Wild Atlantic Way, The Tavern is one of the few gastropubs included in the Michelin Eating Out in Pubs Guide. O’Brien is also a long time member of the prestigious Euro-Toques European chef association.
