Do you ever wake up in the morning and just one look in the mirror is enough to send you back to bed? Pasty, tired looking skin, tired eyes staring back… not the best recipe for feeling on top of the world. If only we could put something on at night that transformed our skin overnight to make it appear healthy and vibrant – I reckon those little cheery endorphins would soon be running amok!
Is there anything that looks healthier than glowing skin? Apart from appearing more vibrant, it can actually make you look younger. While we don’t get massive amounts of sun here, it’s still vital to wear sunscreen every day, regardless of the weather. There’s nothing more ageing than dry, parched skin.
Naturally, a good healthy diet and lots of water helps no end in keeping skin fresh looking, but we can all be a bit lazy when it comes to both of these, so today, I’m bringing in the big guns to help you achieve flawless-looking, radiant skin – with the help of a few products.
There some great products on the market now. Summertime is not about heavy, matte makeup, it’s all about that sun kissed look. Nearly all the major make up brands have jumped on this highly lucrative bandwagon, and the market is now flooded with a myriad of delightful bronzing, highlighting goodies.

Hydrate
Begin with a good moisturiser. I recommend applying your face cream/serum almost immediately, while the skin is nicely hydrated. In the past I regularly had breakfast after I put on moisturiser, with the result my skin was dry before I applied my makeup. Not good practice. This only makes foundation heavy, and even appear patchy.
I recently came across Cork-based InnerZen Organics Skincare who had won a bronze medal in the Problem Skin category at the annual Free From Skincare Awards with their best selling Overnight Elixir. The award is presented to encourage and reward manufacturers of ‘free from’ products, which includes being free-from many allergens, preservatives and additives.
InnerZen (www.innerzenorganics.ie) was founded in 2018 by mother and daughter duo Fiona Long and Kayleigh Ngai. They formulated their Overnight Elixir to help all skin concerns, including hyperpigmentation, redness, and dry, lack-lustre skin.
Through working as a holistic therapist, Fiona realised the many benefits of natural oils. She has some beautiful products and is currently working on developing a wash-off organic facial oil. They hope to be in pharmacies around the country soon. Their Overnight Elixir is €28.95, which is a great price for the purity of the product.
So, what about over-the-counter products to get that glow?

Primer
If you’re a primer fan you might consider switching to an illuminating one. Flormar Illuminating Primer Make-Up Base (€9.95, 30ml) protects and nourishes your skin with its special formula while offering the best skin make-up. It also protects the skin against the signs of early aging.

Moisturiser
Lancôme HydraZen Glow liquid moisturiser (€54.50, 50ml) is lightweight, and fresh. It definitely reduces dullness, and leaves skin beautifully hydrated. It’s rich in amino acids, hyaluronic acid, and rose extract.
Garnier Pinea C Brightening 3 in 1 Serum Cream (€29, 72ml) gives a triple boost, with moisturiser, serum and SPF 30 sunscreen. It evens out skin tone for a fresher appearance.
L’Oreal Paris Glow Cherie (€6.50, 30ml) is another multi-purpose product that can used on the body and the face. It has a shimmer in it, so you’re good to glow! This has an illuminating tint for a brighter complexion, and is available in three shades. Use it simply as a base or blend with foundation to brighten. I actually prefer the blending. Otherwise, use it as a highlighter on cheekbones.
Olay Regenerist Luminous Tone Perfecting Serum (€19.99, 40ml) gives a fabulous glow.  You can use both morning and evening. It  works very well on pigmented areas, and dark spots. evening them out. In fact it claims to eliminate them in as little as four weeks.
If it’s a glow you’re after then try something new. A radiant face is surely the ‘be and end all’ of a gorgeous complexion.
