Westport student gives Snow White a fashion makeover
Laura Jennings, a student designer from Westport, has made the final ten shortlisted designs for the Vodafone DIT Fashion Show 2013, which takes place in Dublin’s Vicar Street on April 17.
Laura, whose design is entitled ‘Poison’, is a student at Limerick IT. The design is modelled by DIT student Isabella Domville, who is studying visual and critical studies.
To fully explore the show theme, ‘House of Chaos: A Twisted Tale’, Laura decided to work with the famous Brothers Grimm story, Snow White, but she gave the story her own unique twist.
The final ten shortlisted student designs were chosen by a judging panel consisting of Ireland’s top stylist Maria Fusco, broadcaster Brendan Courtney, fashion editor at the Weekend Magazine Bairbre Power and designer and previous winner of the student design element of the Vodafone DIT Fashion Show, Umit Kutluk.
According to the show directors, the competition is intense and the overall winner of the student design element will receive a cash prize of €2,500, while the 50 student models involved go head to head for best male and best female model. The chosen charity for the Show this year is Reachout.com.
According to Rob Hyland Sponsorship Manager, Vodafone Ireland, “Vodafone is proud to support this event againwhich has developed a strong reputation over its ten years for recognising young fashion talent. Irish designers have had a significant influence on the fashion industry across the world and events such as this are an important platform to showcase the future of Irish fashion.”
