TRAIN TRACKS Train Room’s new track takes a nostalgic look back at growing up in Balla, singer Joe Monaghan’s hometown.
BALLA singer-songwriter Joe Monaghan and his band, Train Room, will release their much-anticipated new single, ‘Tracks of Our Youth’, on Friday, November 29.
This will be the second single Monaghan and Train Room have released since signing a three-album record deal with independent Swedish label Ninetone Records earlier this year. ‘Tracks of Our Youth’ is written by Monaghan himself and based around his time growing up in his hometown of Balla.
“The song was written at a recording session in Sweden,” Monaghan told The Mayo News. “It’s mainly echoing a nostalgia feel of growing up in Balla in ’80s and ’90s and is probably a reflective style composition, arranged in a simple format.
“It was tracked and mastered in Sweden, with Ninetone Records, and now it’s ready for release. It was great to record a different tempo song and I’m really looking forward to playing it live.”
The song has already received some rave reviews, including one from Hot Press Magazine.
“The musical baby of Mayo songsmith and producer Joe Monaghan,” Hot Press wrote, “Tracks of Our Youth is a simple but exceedingly effective effort.
“Conjuring up the the spirits of Wilco, The Mountain Goats and Soul Asylum, the chorus – which you’ll be humming for months – is nothing short of gorgeous.
“For good measure, Monaghan’s crystal clear tones are full of charm throughout.”
Train Room will be performing the new single at a number of live gigs taking place in January. On January 9, they will be on stage in the Róisín Dubh in Galway; January 10 will see them play in The Grand Social, Dublin, and the following evening, Saturday, January 11, Train Room returns home for a gig in Bridge Street, Castlebar.
‘Tracks of Our Youth’ will be available to download on Spotify and iTunes from this Friday, November 29.
