The New Social, a four-piece band from Castlebar, have been together for a year now, playing a mixture of cover and original songs. Rising quickly, they have performed in some well-known venues, including The Garbo’s, Castlebar; The Quays, Galway; and Cobblestone Joe’s, Limerick.
They recently played support to The Riptide Movement in front of a sell-out crowd in Castlebar, and they’ll be heading back to Limerick on February 12 for another gig in Cobblestone Joe’s. Mayo fans can catch them in Cosy Joe’s, Westport, on Valentine’s night, February 14; The Broken Jug, Ballina, on March 8 and The Castle Inn, Castlebar, on March 14.
With the accolades pouring in, The New Social are now planning to invest more time and energy into writing and performing original songs. At the moment, they are recording their first EP of five original songs with Daniel Loughran from Castlebar in the iconic Windmill Lane Studios, having already set down some tracks in Grouse Lodge, Westmeath, where Michael Jackson recorded.
Last August, the band released ‘I Always Will’, a song in aid of Irish Cancer Society. The song contineues to get great airplay, and is still available to download on iTunes, Google Play and Amazon MP3.
The New Social is made up of Niall Fahey (lead vocals), Darren Moran (guitar), Michael McDermott (bass guitar) and Cathal Ward (drums and backing vocals). Darren is currently studying business in GMIT, Castlebar; Cathal is studying a PLC in music in Castlebar College of Further Education; Michael is currently working in Ladbrokes and Niall Fahey is studying vocals in BIMM Dublin, The British & Irish Modern Music institute.
