As part of National Organic Week, the doors of Mayo Organic Centre, Mayo Abbey, will be flung wide open to visitors this Thursday, September 16.
Staff will be available from 11am to 1pm to chat to members of the public and answer people’s queries. Organic vegetable seeds and fruit trees will also be available to purchase, while the centre’s kitchen staff will also be working some magic with the delicious produce from the garden – the results of which will be available to taste.
That evening, the garden will again be open to visitors at 7pm, while at 8pm Mayo Organic Group will host a talk, ‘Organic Growing in the West of Ireland’, by Klaus Laitenberger, author of the recently published book ‘Vegetables for the Irish Garden’.
Klaus was head gardener in The Organic Centre, Co Leitrim, for seven years, and he worked on the renovation of the gardens at Lissadel House, Co Sligo. His reputation as a personable teacher and engaging speaker precedes him. A wealth of information will be disseminated.
