Saw Doctors, Dempsey, MacGowan confirmed for World Fleadh

With Castlebar as this year’s host venue, festival preparations are well under way for The World Fleadh International Irish & Celtic Music Festival. It will take place in the TF Royal Theatre and Event Centre from July 31 to August 9. Last year’s World Fleadh, which was held in Portlaoise, was a roaring success, and this year’s promises to be even better, with many top international stars in the line-up.
Headlining acts so far include the Saw Doctors, Shane MacGowan and Damien Dempsey and announcements of other international acts will be made on May 1 following the official launch. Shannon Shannon will also headline.
Traditional super group De Dannan, led by world-renowned fiddle player Frankie Gavin, are also performing a one-off reunion concert at the event, which will make for a very unique celebration.
In a new departure, this year’s World Fleadh will incorporate the inaugural Irish Country Music Awards. Accordingly, country stars Randy Travis, Martina McBride, Hal Ketchum and Georgette Jones are all lined up to entertain what are sure to be massive crowds. Ireland’s Music Awards, which recognise the top names in the Irish traditional, folk and Celtic music industry, will also be staged.
The festival will also comprise theatre, outdoor and large-scale concerts, céilís, music, song and dance master classes, workshops and demonstrations, a scheduled session trail, world title competitions, a world food and craft fair, a late-night festival club and a range of other fringe entertainments to cater for all tastes and ages.
