Belmullet to host classical trio

All-female classical trio Triocca will perform in Áras Inis Gluaire, Belmullet, on Friday, May 29, at 9pm.
Triocca was formed in 2003, they won the Music Network’s Young Musicwide Award 2006. They have performed in various venues through Ireland, including the Dublin Philharmonic Society and the Hugh Lane Gallery. Most recently, they performed a concert series with celebrated soprano Sylvia O’Brien. They are also currently celebrating the recent launch of their debut album on the RTÉ Lyric FM label.
Several composers have written music for the trio including Eric Sweeney, James Wilson and Linda Buckley, as well a Irish pianist and composer Philip Martin, who was commissioned by Music Network to compose a piece for them in 2008.
Awarded a place on Young Musicwide Music Network’s development programme for selected young professional musicians, the all-female trio – comprising Ríona O’Duinnín (flute), Nancy Johnson (viola) and Geraldine O’Doherty (harp) – will perform a diverse programme of works by Georg Philipp Telemann, Eric Sweeney, Camille Saint-Saëns, Claude Debussy, Arnold Bax, Maurice Ravel, Alexander Glazunov and Hamilton Harty.
In the past, their playlist has included a wonderful performance of Debussy’s famous ‘Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp’, written in 1915. Cast in three movements, it demonstrates the French composer’s ability to pit these disparate instruments against each other. Let’s hope it’s on the playlist for Belmullet.
Tickets priced €10 are available from Áras Inis Gluaire on 097 81079.
