SINGER-SONGWRITER Ellie O’Neill’s songs explore intimacy, love and loss.
Up-and-coming singer-songwriter Ellie O’Neill and her band will be performing tonight, Tuesday, December 6, at 8pm in Hewetson’s Bar, Bridge Street, Westport.
Ellie is an emerging artist from Ratoath, Co Meath, whose output focuses on songwriting that explores intimacy, love and loss. She creates raw, intimate and rich material which is heightened through a fluid and collaborative relationship with her band members; always placing the emotional detail of the songs at the forefront.
As well as her solo output, Ellie is a regular featured vocalist with Glasshouse Ensemble and is currently also collaborating on a score with Irish filmmaker Alan Gilsenan. On her current Irish tour, Ellie and her band will perform new music co-produced over the past 18 months and shortly to be released as their new album. Ellie’s principle collaborator is drummer Seán Carpio. Born in Peru and based in Dublin, Seán’s diverse musical practice includes collaborations with visual artists in venues such as the Serpentine Gallery London, the Mattress Factory in Pittsburgh and the MAC in Belfast. He has recorded and performed with many well known artists in Ireland and abroad, including Louis Stewart, Ronan Guilfoyle, Cillian Murphy and Nina Hynes.
Completing the lineup is Westport’s own Caoimhe Hopkinson on bass. Caoimhe is a multi-instrumentalist based in Dublin, who has worked with Glasshouse Ensemble, Róisín Ó and Pauline Scanlon, among many others.
