Ireland’s first lady of country music, Susan McCann brings her very special ‘String Of Diamonds’ concert tour to Westport Town Hall on Sunday next, November 20 at 8pm.
It is sure to be a wonderful night of music and entertainment with Susan as she takes a trip down memory lane performing along with her live band. Susan’s special guest for this tour will be her granddaughter, Sinead, who will be joining Susan on stage and performing some special duets including the hugely popular ‘Grandpa Tell ‘Bout The Good Old Days’.
Also joining Susan on stage will be her husband of over 50 years, Denis Heaney, playing accordion who has been her manager and mentor for all those years. “Denis and I are a team. It wouldn’t have worked without him by my side. He is a quiet guy and when I recorded The Wind Beneath my Wings I did it for Dennis,” said Susan.
There is no stopping Susan, who is a household name in Irish country music and even after over 40 years in show business she continues to diversify, forge new career paths, win awards and gain even greater admiration for her talents from fans and music industry chiefs both at home and abroad.
Awards have come her way aplenty, over 50 in total, with the latest being inducted into the UK’s Country Music Hall of Fame in November 2017, only the second performer from Northern Ireland to get this honour, the other being her great friend from the music scene Philomena Begley in 2003. She has also made six appearances on the iconic Grand Ole Opry and at Florida’s famous Strawberry Fair.
