As a fringe event of the 2022 Westport Arts Festival, local poet Mark Chaddock will be reading from his work at Westport Library on Wednesday, October 26 at 7pm.
Mark has published four chapbooks and two book collections of poetry. ‘The Ordinary Miracle’ was his first book collection, published in 2009. His second book collection, ‘The Music Of Wind And Rain’, was published in 2022. ‘Spirit Bird’, his third book collection, is scheduled for launch by Scoil Acla in July 2023.
Mark has read his work throughout Mayo and has appeared in various anthologies and magazines/newspapers. He has read at many art festivals in Achill.
His themes are mostly landscape and nature but also memory, including people. He turns his eye on both the visible and invisible as well as the sacredness of the natural world. Birds, insects and animals feature prominently in his work.
Mark was born in 1957 and raised in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England. For the past twenty-seven years he has lived on Achill island.
In 1995, after a twenty-year career as a Nurse Manager in the NHS he and his wife emigrated to live on Achill island near Mulranny where his mother and grandparents were from.
