Mayo vocal trio Macalla will be bringing their own eclectic musical style to one of a broad but familiar repertoire when they perform in Westport Town Hall on Saturday, September 17.
Macalla’s close harmonies from group members Emma-Jane McHale, Ollie Kennedy and Brendan Duignan will be combined with an orchestral vibe and a rocking rhythm section provided by the mayo-based Electric Twist Orchestra, comprised of Michael Buckton (guitar), Kathy Fahey (piano), Paul Checetti (drums) and Eibhlín Gallagher, Sarah Lyons and Zane Kazotniece (violins),
This promises to be a nostalgic night of entertainment, with best loved Irish rock classics, pop hits and folk favourites like The Undertones’ ‘Teenage Kicks’, Bagatelle’s ‘Summer in Dublin’, Hozier’s ‘Take Me to Church’ and the classic first made famous by Brendan Behan ‘The Auld Triangle’, a song about life in Dublin’s Mountjoy Prison. From The Stunning to Stockton’s Wing, and everything in between, the night promises to deliver wonderful performances.
“Macalla will bring a healthy helping of nostalgia to Westport Town Hall, performing songs across the Irish musical spectrum, enthusing audience members of all ages,” says musical director and producer Kathy Fahey. “Toe-tapping and hand clapping will certainly be part of the night, with music from acts as diverse as U2, The Pogues, The Dubliners and Sinéad O’Connor.”
