Westport Town Hall will host three iconic Irish music performers over the first three Saturday nights in October in front of a live audience.
The Saturday Live Series will kick off on Saturday, October 2, with Mary Coughlan and her band, featuring Johnny Taylor on piano, Barry Donohue on double bass and Dominic Mullan on drums.
Mary Coughlan is arguably one of Ireland’s greatest female jazz and blues singers – a true artist who has carved out a timeless and highly regarded career and a legion of devoted fans worldwide. Mary played the Westport Theatre back in 2017 to a sellout audience and is looking forward to returning to the venue in October.
Singer-songwriter Freddie White will make his debut at the Westport Theatre on Saturday, October 9. With a career spanning over 40 years, Freddie White has long been synonymous with music of the highest quality. He has been part of the fabric of the live music scene in Ireland since the 1970s, and his albums continue to be firm favourite amongst his loyal and newfound fan base.
A founding member of such bands as Scullion and the Freddie White Band, Freddie has collaborated with Eric Clapton, Clannad, Declan Sinnott, Mary Black and Johnny Duhan, and he was lead guitarist with Horselips. His performance will feature new songs along with classics from his long and illustrious career.
The October live series will finish up on Saturday, October 16, with Sharon Shannon who returns to Westport after her performance in February 2019. The concert sees the world-renowned button accordion player from Co Clare joined by musicians Jim Murray and Jack Maher.
A genre-defying star, Shannon has had multi-platinum album sales and several number one albums, singles and DVDs in her home country. She is also the youngest-ever recipient of the Meteor Lifetime Achievement award. While is best known for her arrangements of traditional Irish tunes and Irish-influenced compositions, she has always been eager to explore new styles, and to meet and work with other musicians.
