Going Out

EXCITING PROGRAMME International tenor Hugh Francis will also perform at the upcoming Mayo Music Extravaganza concert in Castlebar.

The Mayo Male Voice Choir will perform along with a multitude of other performers at the very exciting Mayo Music Extravaganza concert at the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, on Friday, February 28.
It’s a busy year ahead for the ever-popular 52-member choir, as 2020 sees it celebrate its 20-year anniversary. The choir sings from a wide-ranging and entertaining repertoire, including classical, popular, musicals, ballads, sacred and Irish classics.
Under the direction of Deirdre Lee, since its inception the choir has won many prizes at choral festivals and has performed all over Ireland, as well as in the UK, Germany and the Czech Republic.
In April, the choir is embarking on a trip to New York, with several events planned, including two notable performances – a public Sacred Music Performance in St Patrick’s Cathedral at 1.45pm on Wednesday, April 15, and a public concert in the Irish American Center in Mineola, New York, at 8pm on Friday, April 17.
The February 28 concert in Castlebar will also feature many other performers across a slew music genres, including several international vocal soloists, from baritone David Durham to tenor Hugh Francis and mezzo soprano Anne Marie Gibbons. Uilleann piper David Moynihan, the Castlebar Concert Band, the Mayo Concert and Youth Orchestras and Castlebar Parish Choir are also on the programme.
Proceeds from the evening will go towards the fit-out of the very impressive Mayo Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA) building, which features modern and acoustically sensitive rehearsal and tuition spaces for all community music and performing arts groups and individuals. The building is now at an advanced stage and due to open in early 2020 as a self-sustaining, not-for-profit rehearsal and tuition facility.
