Westport Town Hall brings the laughs

Going Out

FUNNY MEN Des Bishop and Andrew Maxwell will both perform in Westport during February.

Two top-tier Irish comedians, Des Bishop and Andrew Maxwell, are making their way to Westport next month.
Bishop is bringing his latest stand-up show ‘Mia Mama’ to Westport for two nights, Friday and Saturday, February 14 and 15. The show is inspired by the ‘star’ of Bishop’s life – his mother, who died in March 2019. Bishop puts a comic spin on loss, grief and the chaos that surrounds it.
“It’s a show about motherhood and sacrifice, anxiety and grief, the mistakes you make as a mother and a son and the hard road to forgiveness and finally it’s about loss, grief and the chaos that surrounds it,” he says.
“Also I did a show about my Dad being sick back in 2010 and I couldn’t face my mother in the afterlife because I know her first question would be ‘Your Father got a show, how come I didn’t get one?’.”
Fresh from the jungle, Andrew Maxwell is bringing his new stand-up show, ‘Reality’, to Westport on Saturday night, February 29.
Renowned for his cutting-edge comedy and intrepid social commentary, the enigmatic comedian will be tackling tough political subjects while also relating some some personal stories from the last year.
The past 12 months have not only seen the comedian survive a rainforest populated by creepy crawlies and Z-listers in ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ – as well as tour the UK, record an episode of the BBC’s ‘QI’ and appear on the BBC’s ‘Breaking The News’ and Comedy Central’s ‘Roast Battle’. He also won Celebrity Mastermind with the specialist subject of Lebanon (which he knew nothing about six months before the recording). Fertile ground for some good yarns!
