Trad with a contemporary twist

Going Out

CAPTIVATING Musicians Lorcán Mac Mathún and Daire Bracken, with sean nós dancers Liam Scanlon and Caoimhe Ní Mhaolagáín.

The stage of the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar will be given over to ‘Preab Meadar Rhythm and Rhyme’ this Friday, November 22, at 8pm.
Veteran traditional-music innovators Lorcán Mac Mathúna and Daire Bracken combine with sean nós dancers Liam Scanlon and Caoimhe Ní Mhaolagáín to create a mesmerising conversation of rhythm, generated by voice, fiddle and traditional dance.
Using ‘Preab Meadar’ – Lorcán and Daire’s ground-breaking new suite of dance-songs – as a springboard, this performance takes the blending of vocal, instrumental and dance traditions to new heights. ‘Preab Meadar’ is based on the meters from a medieval Gaelic tradition known as the ‘Dán Díreach’.
Drawing on inspiration from old and contemporary traditions, and from the village dance celebrations that were once common all over Europe, this is a visual and aural feast of dance songs that will have your toes twitching and lips humming.

Tickets (€16/€14) are available from Linenhall Arts Centre at or 094 9023733.
