Country star Cliona Hagan a big fan of Westport

Going Out

ALL SINGING, ALL DANCING Irish country-music sensation Cliona Hagan.

Singer to perform in Mayo town next week

Following on from her headline 2017 performance at the Harvest Music Festival in 2017 at Westport House, Cliona Hagan is back to perform at Westport Town Hall Theatre on Friday, September 20, as part of her Nationwide Theatre Tour.

McCarthy’s Party
No stranger to Westport, Cliona also chose well-known local bar McCarthy’s to record the video for the single ‘McCarthy’s Party’ from her 2018 album ‘Secret Love’.
Speaking about her upcoming Westport concert, the singer gushed: “I absolutely love Westport – it’s such a lively bustling and friendly town –- I have met so many lovely people there, so am excited to play the theatre there and look forward to seeing everyone again!”
Path to stardom
This Co Tyrone singer’s love for music started at an early age. Encouraged and supported by her family and teachers, she studied music and underwent classical voice training. Childhood performances included BBC Radio Ulster, The Grand Opera House Belfast, The Welsh Opera, BBC’s Hearts & Souls TV show and appearances on RTÉ, including The Late Late Toy Show.
Music was never too far away for Cliona. After getting her A Levels, she studied music at Queens University and then went to Edinburgh University, where she qualified as a music teacher. In 2009 she got to the finals of RTÉ’s ‘All-Ireland Talent Show’, representing Co Tyrone and Northern Ireland – and she was firmly on the path to forging a glittering musical career.

Accolades aplenty
In early 2018, not only did Cliona join Irish country’s golden boy, Derek Ryan, on his hugely successful Irish tour promoting his album ‘The Fire’,  she also won Female Vocalist of the Year for the second year running at the Sunday World Awards. May 2018 saw her once again lift an award, as she given yet another accolade at the Hot Country Awards – this time being crowned Entertainer of the Year.
More awards flowed – she was named Female Vocalist of the Year at the prestigious Irish Post Country Music Awards, Sunday World Female Vocalist of the Year for an incredible third year running, and RTÉ’s Irish Country Music Awards (ICMA) Best Newcomer. This year, her talents have expanded, and she was a front-running performer on Dancing With The Stars, reaching the final of the popular show on RTÉ 1.
Little rest for her though! Cliona and her brand-new band are on the road with their ‘Dance On’ tour, and the Westport gig promises to be one of the highlights.
