SISTER ACT Siblings Angela, Joan, Thérèse and Gráinne Diver first formed pop/celtic-rock band Screaming Orphans in 1995.
Fresh from their appearance on The Late Late Show last Friday night, the Screaming Orphans will perform in The Castle Late Night Venue on Sunday, April 7.
Sisters Angela, Joan, Thérèse and Gráinne Diver have come a long way since the early days, when they would play covers at surfing festivals in their hometown, Bundoran. Since signing a deal with London based Blue Mountain Music publishing company, they have played alongside such big names as Christy Moore and Liam O’Maonlai, toured with Sinéad O’Connor and Babba Maal, appeared on David Letterman, recorded with Peter Gabriel and performed backing vocalists on a Joni Mitchell track.
The Screaming Orphans’ wide range of influences include Simon and Garfunkel, The Bangles, and traditional music, with a strong focus on melody-driven songs with pop and rocks strains.
They released a cover of The Turtles’ 1967 classic pop hit ‘Happy Together’ on March 15. This song is the first single to be taken from ‘Life In A Carnival’, which was released on the same day, and officially launched in New York the next day.
The album will be the Screaming Orphan’s 14th release, and they have built up a solid and devoted fanbase in Ireland and in the US, both of which they consider home. In fact their fans are so loyal that 50 American fans are travelling with The Screaming Orphans for their upcoming tour. This is the sixth time The Screaming Orphans have taken fans on the road with them, in what they call ‘The Cultural Fan Tour’.
The date in Westport is one stop in this Cultural Fan Tour, which also includes gigs in The Sanctuary in Ennis, The Allingham Arms in Bundoran and Whelans in Dublin. The band travel with their fans, take them sightseeing and have dinner with them, as well as introduce them to other Irish musicians along the way. Fans come from all over the US and from all walks of life – watch out Westport!
Doors open at 8pm.
