Mayo rock and country band Hurricane Highway will play a big gig in their home town of Westport in December. The news comes hot on the heels of the band winning the coveted Best Video Award at the recent Irish TV Country Music Awards.
Kevin Collins, lead guitarist, said they have enjoyed great success over the last 18 months, and they felt it was an easy decision to start their 50-date tour in their home town at the Westport Town Hall Theatre on December 23 with their concert band.
“The main reason we are starting the tour in Westport is as a big thank you to all the fans, friends and family who supported us from the very start. It should be a great gig and we are all really looking forward to it,” said Kevin.
The band has also been approached by one of America’s most successful country-music songwriters, who would like to work with them on some new material. They will have a new album out late in the summer and are now just putting the finishing touches to it.
Westport native Ed Holland, lead singer, said that they are amazed at the speed at which things have evolved.
“We are getting excited and really looking forward to our new album and concert tour, as we are putting together a very special show that we believe will surprise and really entertain people,” said Ed.
At the Irish Country TV Awards, in his acceptance speech, Ed gave away the fact that Kevin Collins himself had written the story board for the winning video ‘Hey Pretty Girl’, in memory of his late wife.
“It’s a beautiful and moving video that was put together by Epic Productions in Cork, who are part of our team. It has been watched by over half a million people on YouTube and the numbers keeps rising,” added Ed.
