Henry McGlade

The eagerly anticipated Mayo County Council’s Summer Music Series 2010 will feature seven musical performances in venues all around the county –  Achill, Ballyhaunis, Belmullet, Westport, Ballina, Charlestown and Louisburgh.
Renowned for its exciting, eclectic programme, the Summer Music Series will this year feature some of the finest local, national and international musical talent. As always, all events are free of charge, but booking is essential, as the seats are snapped up fast.
Kicking off the series in Holy Trinity Church, Westport, on Friday, July 1, at 8pm, are the Artis Quartet from Vienna. The quartet formed in 1980, and after studying in Vienna and Cincinnati, they started their professional career, performing to high acclaim worldwide at many prestigious venues. They have appeared at Carnegie Hall, New York; London’s Wigmore and Queen Elizabeth Halls; the Kennedy Center, Washington DC; Konzerthaus and Philharmonie, Berlin; and Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires. The quartet have also played at many important international festivals and this year they are slated to play at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival.
The idyllic setting of Holy Trinity Church coupled with superb music from a multi-award winning quartet ensures that the series’ first audience will be a night to remember.
