O’Malley in fitness race as other injuries clear up
Mayo injury news

LIAM O’Malley is Mayo’s main injury worry ahead of Sunday’s quarter-final clash with Laois. O’Malley trained on his own on Monday while the rest of the panel played a full training game. The Burrishoole club man picked up a hamstring injury in training after the Connacht Final and he is rated as doubtful for Sunday’s game.
Trevor Mortimer took part in the training game on Monday but had to pull up, mindful of the hamstring injury he picked up playing for his club ten days ago. It would appear unlikely that Mortimer will contend for a starting place although he may yet figure from the bench.
However, the news elsewhere on the injury front is good. James Nallen and David Heaney were both back training on Monday after missing last week’s sessions due to injuries picked up in the club championships ten days ago. Nallen had a hamstring strain while Heaney had a shoulder injury, both of which have cleared sufficiently to allow a return to full action.
David Brady is back in full training since last Thursday after being out since early June with a broken metatarsal in his left foot. Brady’s return is a major boost to the Mayo team but he is still rated as unlikely to feature on Sunday.
An introduction off the bench is thought to be the best case scenario.
Trevor Howley has recovered from a bug while Barry Moran has also resumed full training.
Mayo will train again this evening (Wednesday) evening and depart for Dublin on Saturday.
